First ride of the spring - climbing repeats!!

After a good start to my rides in 2010 with a loong weekend in March, some illness and trips away meant that I saw no riding in April.   Today changed that, with a ride of 2 hours and 32 miles.  More important than that was that I included an hour of climbing repeats in the middle of the ride.

Hill repeats are explained here by Chris Carmichael, coach & trainer for many pros including Lance Armstrong.  “the cornerstone of improving your climbing.

I headed to the Standsted Sawmill hill which runs alongside Stansted House (good views).  My uphill was a 6-minute blast to the top, with 3-minutes down.  6 sets of that and I was done, literally.  Let me tell you, they are a bit of a killer, but they did feel good.

So why?   Next weekend I’m one half of a team for the Goodwood Duathlon.  Stuart is running as he’s MUCH quicker than me, I’m riding.   That ride is ~40km with a loop that includes the full length of Goodwood hill, TWICE!

I’ve posted a couple of photos from today also.  Sussex is glorious.
